ISB stimulates children to become ambitious lifelong learners by placing play and creativity at the heart of everything we do. As a well-resourced school with backing from the LEGO Foundation, we are uniquely positioned to shape and share a vibrant educational philosophy for the future.
From the start, ISB's goals have been ambitious, but achievable: first, to demonstrate the power of playful learning in a real-world setting, and second, to make Billund - the Capital of Children - an even more attractive place to settle, both for Danish and international families.
ISB's playful curriculum is built upon the rigorous educational framework of the International Baccalaureate, which provides students with a solid and transferable foundation of academic skills. We are an accredited IB World School for the Primary Years Programme, and our older students are taught according to the IB's Middle Years Programme.
The dream of establishing the International School of Billund can be attributed to Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, Chairman of the Board of the LEGO Foundation, and owner of the LEGO Group. He first announced his thoughts about the school project in December 2011.
ISB opened its doors in August 2013 with just over 60 students evenly divided between Kindergarten and Primary School. Today, we have about 320 students spread across Kindergarten, Primary School and Middle School. ISB currently serves students ages 3 to 14, with plans to reach up to age 16 in the 2018-2019 school year.
Our students and staff hail from more than 50 nations around the world. Among those, the countries with the highest representation are Denmark, the US, Germany and the UK. About half of our families have a connection to The LEGO Group; the rest are employed by a variety of international and Danish companies in the region.
